The 12 Touchstones of Good Teaching
a checklist for staying focused every day
by Bryan Goodwin & Elizabeth Ross Hubbell
Bryan Goodwin and Elizabeth Ross Hubbell in their book The 12 touchstones of good teaching: a checklist for staying focused every day, have created what they call a “master or meta-checklist” (2013, p. xviii). This checklist gives an overarching view of the tenets of becoming a good teacher by breaking large concepts into a do-confirm style list. A do-confirm list assumes that a professional, such as a teacher, performs much of their daily work from experience and memory. However, that same professional can find a great benefit from touching back to a list and making sure they have done the best job they could have.
The book is divided into three main sections, be demanding, be supportive, and be intentional. In each section are four items to check in on.

Research of the book was for the class Learning Theories and Models of Instruction taught by LeslieAnn Humphreys, EdD in the Masters program of Colorado State University Global Campus.
